The Department of Transport is looking at ways to strengthen bus safety regulations and at the same time reduce red tape for operators.

Victorian bus operators, testers, passengers and the regulator all have a role to play in bus safety. The Bus Safety Regulations outline what must be done to ensure safe bus services.

Our current regulations cover systems for complying with safety duties and maintenance, and keeping vehicles safe and maintained at all times.

Additionally, regulations cover inspections and audits of bus operators, incident reporting and bus incident investigations, record keeping and fees.

The Department of Transport has prepared a Regulatory Impact Statement and a Summary document; both identify some of the issues that could improve Victoria’s Bus Safety Regulations.

We would like you to read this Regulatory Impact Statement and Summary document – which can also be found in the 'Documents' section on this page – and provide your feedback by completing a submission form below.

By making a submission you will help us better understand the issues and develop options for improving the way we manage bus safety regulations in Victoria.

We are seeking feedback by Thursday, 13 August 2020. New Bus Safety Regulations are expected to be in place in October 2020.
